In my artist talk I present the two projects I worked on this semester for my Art as Research class. These projects were centered around my research question on art and identity, and what the methods, medium and imagery I use says about me. For my archive project, I created a living quilt that included many pieces of fabric, yarn swatches, cyanotypes and unfinished projects I have been saving for 9 months to use in something else. My idea was that I would be able to build on this quilt and take pieces from it as I continued my artistic practice, so the quilt would change depending on what I was working on. I actually haven’t been using it yet because I don’t currently have enough space, but when I move out I plan on constructing a quilt stand for the archive and displaying it so that I can utilize it more. My mapping project was a project about the layovers I have been to while traveling between Oberlin and Seattle. Over the years I have observed a lot of interesting things about airports, especially because I spend so much time in layovers, which I talk about more in the presentation.
